Taking a break from regular farmers markets this year. We have CSA pickup on Thursday evenings in FoPo. We are doing a new pop-up .market with Rocky Butte Farmers Market on August 3 from 10am-2pm
This year we have two primary outlets: Cully Farmers Market in NE Portland and our eight member CSA program. The new site is great! In fact there seemed to be so much space that I didn't know what to do with all of it. It is slowly but surely filling up and the transplanting of a new batch of crops for fall should nearly finish the job. I'm excited for this year's tomato crop as last year was quite underwhelming. Now there is more space, more sun, and fewer rocks. There are ten varieties of tomato in the field right now. Also, one of my favorite crops to eat is sweet peppers. I am trying some new varieties this year and have four types in the field. I don't usually get excited about eggplants, but this year I have a variety of Greek eggplant that sounds quite delicious.
Hey it's March! Have you noticed the sky brightening a bit earlier?
Crop update: in the field we have garlic, sweet onions, and Lacinato kale that have been overwintering. In the greenhouse we have sweet onions, storage onions, scallions, and Italian parsley. Under lights we have cabbage, two kinds of broccoli, and new kale. We are tentatively set up with Rockwood Farmers Market on Sundays, mid-day, and the Cully Farmers Market on Thursday evenings. More details and exact locations once everything is solidified. In case you hadn't heard, Parkrose Farmers Market ceased operations after last season. Due to low sales several vendors abandoned ship. The new location just didn't seem to draw a wide enough customer base. While PFM was a great place to be for our first year going to market we now find ourselves wondering where the next outlet for our produce will be. Do you know of a small, neighborhood-oriented market that would be a good fit for our small operation?
Also, this is Weebly, a well known free or low cost website builder. Please let me know if everything's working, how it looks on mobile, anything else you'd like to see, etc. I thought my old website was pretty sweet. But not $96 per annum sweet. Here's a new, pretty easy to use, free website using Weebly. Please let me know what you think in the comments. Also, if you have any ideas for blog posts I'm all ears. I've been too exhausted to write lately, but the time will come.
